New technology to help police tackle drug abuse in Lichfield and Burntwood

New equipment has been introduced to help police tackle drug abuse in Lichfield and Burntwood.

Staffordshire Police will fund the new substance detection technology through the Proceeds of Crime Act.

Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Ellis said the equipment would replace machines used since 2000.

“We are fully committed to tackling drug and substance abuse throughout Staffordshire,” he said. “This new equipment will offer great assistance to officers in their pursuit to challenge such crime.

“The police have done a great job cracking down on people who are the scourge of our communities.

“We need to get tougher and be less tolerant on this form of criminality and do all we can to stamp it out of our society.”
