Lichfield City FC come out on top in dramatic seven goal thriller against Heath Hayes

Lichfield City FC came from 3-1 down to secure all three points in another rollercoaster clash with Heath Hayes.

Dave Langston’s were made to work hard for their Midland Football League Division One victory against their near neighbours.

Things didn’t get off to the best of starts for the hosts as they fell behind after just two minutes when Brad Rolston netted for Heath Hayes.

But City hit back almost immediately thanks to a neat finish by Daniel Griffiths.

Rolston was proving to be a thorn in Lichfield’s side as he rounded keeper Jon Clough to restore the visitors’ lead on 19 minutes.

The game looked to be disappearing out of sight in the first 25 minutes as Jack Weldon netted to make it 3-1 to Heath Hayes.

But Lichfield still had belief as Ben Lund saw his effort blocked and Jordan Evans saw his free-kick strike the crossbar before the break.

City needed better in the second half and they duly found it as Jordan Hunt’s volley rippled the net to make it 3-2.

Griffiths turned provider for Lichfield’s leveller as his ball fond Dale Roberts who hammered home.

With the scores level City went in search of a dramatic winner, Evans clipping the post before Griffiths sent a good chance wide from six yards.

Lund was next to go close before Tom Green’s ball gave Griffiths the chance to make it 4-3 and he made no mistake to earn all three points for his side.
