A second half collapse saw Lichfield City FC’s interest in the JW Hunt Cup come to an end against former boss Gary Birch’s Walsall Wood side.

A youthful City squad gave a good account of themselves in the first half, Jordan Hunt giving them an early lead with a deflected strike.

But Walsall Wood hit back with a neat Peter Till finish from the edge of the box.

Paul Sullivan drew a smart save out of Lichfield keeper Jon Clough before ex-Chasetown defender Chris Slater headed home to give the visitors the lead.

But Lichfield bounced back when Ben Lund latched on to a loose back pass to round the keeper and tap home to send both sides in level at 2-2

Walsall Wood came out firing in the second half and restored their lead when Sam Agar netted twice, before Sullivan chipped the keeper to make it 5-2.

Former City striker Tony Clarke wrapped up the scoring for the visitors as they ran out 6-2 winners.
