Battling Lichfield City FC upset the odds to earn a point against Hinckley

Lichfield City FC produced a battling performance to earn a point against in-form Hinckley, despite having just ten men for more than half the game.

Dave Langston’s men became the first side to prevent the visitors from winning since October.

The game looked to be going the way of the Midland Football League Division One form book in the first half as Hinckley went in front when Luke Richards crossed for Steve Hart to net.

And City’s job looked to be twice as difficult when Lewis Bourne was sent off for a two-footed challenge before the break.

But the second period saw Lichfield come out with a new-found vigour as Ben Lund’s pace got him into a dangerous position and he crossed for Daniel Griffiths to equalise.

Lund had caused the visitors problems all afternoon and he proved to be their undoing again as he latched on to a long ball to fire City in front.

An unlikely victory looked to be on the cards until three minutes from the end when Hart’s shot was saved but Dominic Perkins was on hand to tap home the rebound and rescue a point for Hinckley.
