The women, who take part in arts and crafts events at the Burntwood facility, held a competition to design a Christmas card, which was then sold to raise the money.

Group leader Audrey Davis said: “We describe ourselves as mature ladies with a shared interest in art and if it was not for the facilities at Chase Terrace Community Fire Station we would not be able to keep the group going.”

The members donated the sum to the charity as a way of showing their gratitude for their continued use of the community rooms.

Station Manager Damian Armstrong said: “It is very touching that these ladies have decided to donate the funds to the Fire Fighters Charity.

“It is also great to see the positive impact that the Fire Station is having on local people’s lives.

“The purpose of the rooms was always to give groups like Audrey’s a place to meet so that they have a space that they can use for activities that improve their wellbeing.

“These types of activities stop people from becoming socially isolated and it is a real privilege to support them.”
