A report praising the role of cathedrals in local communities has been welcomed by the Dean of Lichfield Cathedral.

The review followed a tour of the UK by Minister for Faith, Lord Bourne last year.

His visits to cathedrals, including Lichfield, highlighted the role such buildings play in involving local residents, promoting economic growth and continuing to serve as sites of worship.

Lichfield Cathedral was praised for the use of technological advancements, improvements to the architecture and the range of artistic events it hosts.

Adrian Dorber, Dean of Lichfield Cathedral, said: “The report is a great reflection of all the hard work put in by the cathedrals.

“We’ve put huge amounts of effort into cultivating continual involvement from the community and I’m particularly proud of our app which the report touches on.

“It gives more people access to the St Chad Gospels, and ultimately that’s what we want to do, increase the accessibility of our work.”
