Chasetown FC see Staffordshire Senior Cup hopes ended by youthful Stoke City side

Chasetown FC’s Staffordshire Senior Cup hopes were dashed by a youthful Stoke City side.

The Premier League U23 side took the lead in the eighth minute after they were awarded a spot kick and Daniel Jarvis slotted past Curtis Pond despite the keeper going the right way.

On the half hour mark, Chasetown had a strong penalty appeal of their own turned down after Danny Cocks seemingly received a push in the back.

The hosts almost levelled when Jack Langston’s drive beat the keeper but was cleared off the line by Jake Dunwoody.

But five minutes before half time, Stoke broke immediately though and Ryan Hill’s deflected effort beat Pond.

City extended their lead four minutes into the second half. A Chasetown attack broke down in midfield and the visitors broke quickly and Shola Ayoola headed home a cross from Tre Pemberton.

Chasetown stayed positive and looked to try and get a consolation goal but a Langston effort from a Will Whieldon free kick was the nearest they came.

Pond was the busier keeper though and saved well late on from Krisztofer Szereto.
