Chasetown FC survived the drama of receiving two red cards to claim a hard-fought win at Leek Town.

The Scholars rode some early pressure from the hosts, but were then denied from taking the lead themselves by two top class saves.

In the 24th minute a long range effort from captain Jack Langston was palmed wide for a corner by Danny Roberts, who then made an even better to save at full strength to keep out a Will Whieldon volley.

Roberts completed a hat-trick of smart stops from Danny Cocks at point blank range with Whieldon’s follow up cleared off the line by defender Scott Lycett.

The spell of pressure finally paid off with a long range Langston effort that flew past the Leek keeper.

Chasetown doubled their lead five minutes into the second half. Cocks’ shot was deflected into the path of Muzzy Nduna who volleyed in at the near post.

The Scholars were reduced to ten men when Callum Lovatt received a second yellow card.

Almost immediately Leek reduced the deficit through substitute Tim Grice.

Chasetown received a second red after Whieldon was adjudged to have pushed left back Jordan Lemon.

Some heroic defending from the nine men kept Leek at bay as The Scholars held on for all three points.
