A new ‘Silver Singers’ daytime choir is being launched in Lichfield.

The group will give people of all abilities the chance to come together to sing.

A free open day from 10.30am to 12noon at the Lichfield Garrick will give people a chance to find out more about the choir.

The Lichfield Garrick’s executive director Karen Foster said: “Singing together is such a great way to meet up with friends or to make new friends, as well as a fantastic way to improve your health and happiness.

“This choir will be a joyous celebration of the kind of music our silver singers enjoy and I know that people of all singing abilities will be welcomed by our lovely choir trainer, Angharad Sanders.”

Angharad has previously worked on both the West End and Broadway as well has being the musical director on the Lichfield Garrick’s community musicals, The Hired Man and The Dreaming.

She said: “Working with the Lichfield Garrick Community Choir has been a pure joy for the past few years and we are now very excited to work with this brand new, day time choir.

“In contrast to our current ensemble, this day time choir will focus on music from the golden age of jazz and films, performing music made famous by artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Dame Vera Lynne and many more.

“We hope to see lots of new faces and voices join us for this weekly look at these classic musicians.”

After the free open day, the new daytime choir will meet weekly at the theatre on Tuesday mornings. Places cost £55 per term and can be booked at the Lichfield Garrick’s box office in person or by calling 01543 412121.
