Play-off chasing Chasetown FC won their fourth consecutive league game as they saw off Spalding United.

A scrappy first half hour was devoid of any clear cut goal chances. Chasetown’s best two were from Jack Langston and Jake Lovatt who both had shots straight at Mike Antkowiak.

The Scholars also had two penalty appeals turned away by referee Richard Walker, both for challenges on Danny Cocks.

But the home side remained the most likely to break the deadlock with Spalding’s keeper saving an Oli Hayward header in the dying embers of the first half.

Chasetown deservedly took the lead two minutes into the second half. Cocks twisted and turned to tie the defender in knots and fed Jake Lovatt who fired home from inside the six yard box.

After the Lincolnshire side had a spell of more dangerous possession, The Scholars delivered a sucker blow as Langston fed Muzzy Nduna and his curling shot was misjudged by Antkowiak and squirmed under his body and crossed the goal line.
