Lichfield City FC had an afternoon to forget as they went down 4-2 to Atherstone Town.

The first half had been an even encounter with Alex Naughton’s opener cancelled out by a header from City’s Anthony Juxon.

But Atherstone went back in front when Luke Shorthouse tapped home from close range.

Sloppy play by Lichfield soon saw the Adders stretch their lead as Naughton netted his second.

The Atherstone man went close to a hat-trick as his effort cannoned off the upright, before Shorthouse added a second goal of his own after rounding City keeper Jon Clough.

Jamie Hawkins’ men did manage to pull a goal back as Drew Aiton fired home but it wasn’t enough as Lichfield remain tenth in the Midland Football League Division One.
