Junior Lichfield hockey players celebrate after being crowned Staffordshire champions

Junior hockey players from Lichfield Hockey Club have been crowned regional champions.

The under 12 team won the Staffordshire Championship title on Sunday (February 25), seeing off teams from across the county, including Leek, Streetly and Wednesbury.

The city youngsterz won all of their matches and only conceded one goal.

Mike Nicklin, Lichfield Boys Under 12 coach, said: “Everyone put their heart and soul into the competition straight from the first whistle.

“What was so encouraging was even though they started slowly, they grew in confidence by learning from each match. They worked as a team, showing great maturity, encouraging each other until the final whistle.

“Their spirit and togetherness was fantastic and everyone is looking forward to the regional finals.”

The Lichfield Hockey Club boys under 12 team is made up of captain Seb Fisher, vice-captain Oliver Collins, goalkeeper Toby Dennis and outfield players Joe Cowley, James Carter, John Nicklin, Harvey Hughes, Jed Benson, Louis Laws and Joe O’Hara.
