Members of the Burntwood and Hammerwich branch of the Labour party visited the Cannock and District Foodbank to hand over the cheque together with more than 30kg of food.

The money was raised at a race night hosted by the group at The Grangemoor Working Mens Club in Burntwood.

The foodbank operates at Emmanuel Church on Cannock Road on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

A spokesperson for the Labour branch said: “There should be no need for foodbanks in a modern, caring society, but the Labour party will support them because they do exist.”
