First-half goals enough as Chasetown FC cruise to all three points against Carlton Town

Play-off chasing Chasetown FC boosted their hopes of extending their season with a first half blitz against Carlton Town.

The Scholars took the lead in the 9th minute when a Will Whieldon corner found its way all across to Jake Lovatt who half-volleyed across Jack Steggles into the far corner.

Whieldon then rattled the Carlton crossbar with a free kick wide on the Chasetown left.

It was one way traffic and Lovatt flicked into the path of George Cater whose effort was kicked away by Steggles.

Whieldon then saw a free kick pushed aside by the much-worked Steggles.

Eventually the pressure paid off and Whieldon turned provider again chipping up to an unmarked Danny Cocks who volleyed past Steggles who couldn’t get a firm touch on the ball.

Carlton were put to the sword and Cater skipped through the defense to make it 3-0 before Lovatt struck the post and Jack Langston had an effort cleared off the line.

Second half chances weren’t as clearcut as the first half though, with Langston and Whieldon both firing narrowly wide of the upright and Lovatt seeing a near post shot saved on his line by the Carlton keeper.

The home side kept creating and Jack Dundas stung Steggles gloves but the Scholars failed to add to their first half goals.
