Heidi Hawkes, who attends St Joseph’s RC Primary School, competed in the World Championships in Glasgow yesterday (March 27).

The 9-year-old – who is too young to compete in the solo competitions until next year – was part of the Birmingham-based Kidd School’s under 11 ceili team.

They qualified for the competition after being crowned regional champions in November and took on 30 other teams from around the world at the competition in Scotland.

After two dances, they finished in eighth, earning them a World Medal.

The team’s latest success comes after they were also crowned Great Britain champions last year, while Heidi also won the Midlands Regional Championships and collected 11th place against a field of dancers from around the world at the All Ireland Championships.
