Lichfield City FC suffer disappointing defeat against Brocton

Lichfield City FC failed to build on back-to-back wins as they were sunk by lowly Brocton.

Jamie Hawkins’ men were undone by a sublime strike from distance by Ross Clarke as the visitors started the brighter of the two sides.

And things went from bad to worse as Declan Arber turned home a corner from close range.

City attempted to rally with Drew Aiton denied by a smart side as Lichfield went into the break two goals adrift.

A double change from boss Hawkins at the change failed to spark the hosts into life as Adam Jenkins produced a neat double save to prevent Brocton extending their lead.

But Lichfield were handed a lifeline when a clumsy challenge provided them with a penalty that Tom Green slotted home.

And City completed what seemed an unlikely comeback when Joshua Mansell netted after neat work from Alex Keating.

Lichfield almost got their noses in front as Max Black rifled into the side-netting.

But Brocton weren’t ready to fold completely and went back ahead when Joe Hartshone’s shot was deflected past Jenkins.

And Arber made sure of the points with a neat finish to make it 4-2 to the visitors.

City’s afternoon could still get worse though as Aaron Dillon saw red after collecting his second yellow of the game.
