Play-off chasing Chasetown FC suffered an away day to forget as they were hammered 6-0 at Stamford.

The hosts took the lead after just five minutes. Eliot Putman fired goalwards but Curtis Pond could only keep it out as far as Bradley Fortnam-Tomlinson who tapped the rebound into an empty net.

Stamford doubled their lead on 20 minutes. Pond came out to try and meet a header but didn’t get there and Rob Morgan looped his effort home.

A disastrous start for The Scholars got worse when Jordan Smith beat the offside trap to head home a Stamford third goal before the half hour.

Home keeper Danny Haystead finger tipped over a Will Whieldon free kick as the visitors looked to find a way back into the game.

Chasetown were handed a lifeline when Danny Cocks was brought down, but Jack Langston fired his spot kick over the crossbar.

Five minutes after the break, Stamford broke down a Scholars attack and Fortnam-Tomlinson took the ball on his chest and volleyed past Pond.

The hosts made it five with another well worked goal with Bradley Wells driving home low along the ground.

Jake Lovatt forced Haystead into a scrambling save with a header as the visitors tried to force a consolation.

Stamford extended their lead to six as substitute Liam Adams broke through unchallenged to net comfortably.
