Members of a residents’ group say they hope councillors in Lichfield will reject proposals to replace a Burntwood Post Office with a dental surgery.

Planning permission is currently being sought to convert the Sankey’s Corner facility.

However, the plans have met with criticism locally after residents were reassured that the impending closure of Barclays at Sankey’s Corner would be mitigated by many services being offered at the nearby Post Office.

But a statement supporting the planning application had suggested the current owner had been unsuccessful in trying to sell the business and could shut regardless of whether the proposal goes ahead or not.

However, Burntwood Action Group has said the loss of a community facility should not be accepted.

“We are pleased to report that Burntwood Town Council’s planning committee have refused the change of use application for the Post Office based on the need to keep a much needed public amenity open,” a statement from the group said.

“We now hope that the Lichfield District Council planning committee follow the lead of our councillors and back this decision.”
