Lichfield City FC downed by high-flying Leicester Road

Lichfield City FC found high-flying Leicester Road too hot to handle in a 5-2 defeat.

Jamie Hawkins men more than matched their third-placed opponents in the first half, but the visitors were able to wrestle away all three points after the break.

City began brightly and found themselves in front when Alex Forde finished off a Jordan Evans corner.

But Adam Jenkins had to be alert at the other end as Leicester Road went in search of a leveller.

The equaliser eventually came from the penalty spot after a foul in the box.

With the scores level at the break Lichfield would have been hopeful of another bright start, but they found themselves behind when Jake Holt capitalised on a poor pass at the back.

And things went from bad to worse as Amarvir Sandhu extended his side’s advantage from the edge of the box.

But Lichfield were still fighting and made it 3-2 when Joshua Mansell’s cross was steered home by Tom Green.

Any hopes of a comeback were dashed though as two goals wrapped up the points for Leicester Road.
