Burntwood residents have been urged to speak out against plans to convert a Post Office into a dental surgery.

The planning application would see the Sankey’s Corner site shut in the wake of the HSBC and Barclays bank closures, meaning people and businesses in the town would no longer have access to a number of financial services.

Burntwood councillor Darren Ennis is one of two parties who have now come forward to buy the business and run it as a Post Office.

But the Burntwood Action Group has urged locals to do their bit to ensure Lichfield District Council’s planning committee does not leave the door open for the site to be used for a different purpose.

In a Facebook post, the group said: “There is still time left for Burntwood residents to record their objections to the planning application for change of use of the Post Office at Sankey’s Corner.

“We believe that currently there are two active offers to purchase the Post Office and run it as a going concern – we need to help to keep this facility open and your action now could help save this valuable asset for the community.”

Residents can view the plans and have their say via Lichfield District Council’s planning website.
