Veterans and invited guests have attending a ceremony marking the anniversary of the D-Day landings at the National Memorial Arboretum.

The event saw ten Normandy veterans presented with the Legion d’honneur in recognition of their contribution to the liberation of France.

Colin Harris, 93, a D-Day veteran of the Kings Shropshire Light Infantry, said the landings had been an eye opener for young soldiers.

“It taught you to be a man, to use your initiative and don’t place all your trust in the senior officers,” he said.
