Drayton Manor’s ‘mystic meerkats’ back England to get off to a winning start against Tunisia in the 2018 FIFA World Cup

England will win their opening World Cup game against Tunisia – according to predictions from Drayton Manor Park’s ‘mystic meerkats’.

Three of the animals have been pushing a ball with mealworms into a goal to decide the outcome of some of the matches.

And the four-legged tipsters have backed Gareth Southgate’s men to come out on top against Tunisia in their opening fixture.

Chris Mitchell, head of zoo operations at Drayton Manor, said: “Our meerkats have a proven track record of making sporting predictions, so we thought we would get them involved again in this year’s big tournament because they are so intuitive.

“They really enjoy the animal enrichment we provide and this time, for a bit of added fun, we made special goals and a ball with mealworms to get them to dribble the ball into the winning team’s net.

“If they get this right, we will continue to provide predictions – they could go on to be as famous as Paul the Octopus.”

The meerkats have also given the hosts a boost, by backing Russia to pick up three points when they play the tournament’s opening fixture this afternoon (June 14).
