A 92-year-old Lichfield grandad is taking on a 5km challenge to raise money for charity.

Bernard Gannon, from Streethay, will line-up along other participants for the Acorns Bubble Rush on June 30.
He will ride an electric scooter through a mountain of multi-coloured bubbles alongside grandaughter Gemma Williams at Worcester Racecourse.
Bernard said the plan for him to take part had been a surprise: “At first I thought I was just going to Worcester for the day for lunch – then I realised we’d be taking part in the 5km Bubble Rush for Acorns Children’s Hospice first.
“It’ll be great to support for Acorns and my granddaughter. It’ll also be a day out with the family as we are still having lunch. I will be taking part on my electric scooter – so I will make sure they are all running.”
Bernard and Gemma are part of Team Awesome alongside Janet Rayson, Janet Gregory, Hannah Page and Alicia Killen.
They are organising a coffee and cake morning at Lichfield City FC at 9.30am on Sunday (June 24) to help raise additional money for the Acorns charity, which helps provide care for children and their families.
Sam Greatrex, senior events officer at Acorns, said: “At 92 Bernard is quite possibly this year’s oldest Bubble Rush entrant, which just shows how inclusive this brilliant event is.
“You don’t have to be a runner to take part, it’s all about having fun. So please follow Team Awesome’s lead and sign up.”
