Lichfield’s MP said he had “a fabulous day out” after being invited to open the Burntwood Wakes.
Held at Burntwood Leisure Centre, thousands joined in the free fun as a range of activities and displays were served up.
The opening ceremony was conducted by Conservative MP Michael Fabricant.
He said: “I thanked God for the weather, Burntwood Town Council and their events committee along with their chair, Cllr Heather Tranter, and council chairman Pam Stokes and Keith Stokes for all the organisation that went into it – and I apologised profusely because the council wanted a Celeb to open Burntwood Wakes, but they got me instead.
“There were lots of stands and rides and food and my thanks to everyone who appeared in the arena, including my friends in the Uttoxeter Heart of Oak Morris Men.
“It’s a fantastic day out.”

Glad he managed to find his way to Burntwood. Google Maps is great for that. Did he take a look at the rotting mobile buildings that are laughably known as our “Health Centre” and the long unused building next to the Star pub at the other end of Burntwood?
Nope. But he’s always ready to lend a PR spin…
