An amateur photographer from a Burntwood sailing club will see his work appear in a national sailing calendar.
Charlie Chandler’s image was taken at Chasewater in June as fellow Chase Sailing Club members Eden Hyland and Issy Tate were in training for the GP14 class World Championships in Cornwall.
His shot was selected for the RYA’s ilovesailing calendar competition and is now set to appear in thousands of the organisation’s 2019 calendars.
Charlie said: “I was on rescue duty during club racing and, as it was so nice and sunny with some half decent breeze, I thought I’d take my GoPro out with me. I’ve always been inspired by some of the action shots from top events at locations such as Garda so thought I’d try and see what I could produce – a photo that would be exciting to me.
“It’s fantastic to win the competition.
“For me sailing is all about having fun and satisfying my quietly competitive nature. I love club racing where it is all about having fun, a bit of informal racing and then a quick beer after. Equally, I love attending racing events, which in recent have taken me all over Europe and the UK, where I have met some amazing people and made memories for life.”
As well as claiming his spot on the 2019 calendar, Solihull-based Charlie also wins two tickets to The Southampton Boat Show, a canvas print of his winning entry, a copy of the final calendar and a selection of RYA goodies, including the ilovesailing rubber duck.
