Michael Fabricant made his comments during an interview with Adrian Goldberg on BBC Radio WM over the weekend.

The Conservative MP hit the headlines for calling a teenage Burntwood residents “a complete twat”.

In his interview Mr Fabricant maintained he was not aware of the meaning of the word.

“I genuinely didn’t know it was a very rude word,” he said. “I thought it was just another version of twit. Someone shouted it a week earlier in the House of Commons.

“But she was a twit.”

Mr Fabricant had also said he would end up punching a female journalist in the throat if he appeared alongside her on TV.

“It was a silly thing for me to say and anyone who knows me knows I don’t even use that phrase,” he said.

“I tweeted it following an interview she did. It was silly tweet to do. People implied I was threatening her, but I wasn’t.”

Asked whether he would continue to use twitter in the wake of recent controversies, including his posting of an offensive tweet about London Mayor Sadiq Khan, Mr Fabricant said he was keen to keep using the platform.

“I like interacting with people,” he said. “It’s a modern way of communicating.”

The full interview can be heard online.

Just like water off a ducks back, I will carry on tweeting when I am suppose to be working and taking note of what’s going on, like everyone else who has a very important job to do, Twonk

He really is a complete waste of space, he even doesn`t complain about Lichfields potholes or the weeds growing in the roadside gutters.

He doesn’t interact in any meaningful way.

Ask him a straight question and you won’t get an answer.

Mostly he tweets about how great he is, how awful labour is … and often slightly off-colour “witticisms” originated by him or retweeted from his weird fans.

I genuinely like the man and think he’s doing a great job for the city and surrounding towns and villages…is as true a statement coming from me as “I genuinely didn’t know it was a very rude word,” is coming out of his lying mouth. Just wish he’d piss off now

Either the most naïve, sugarsweet MP in the House or someone who is so self-obsessed that he does what he likes on social media and tries to hide behind ignorance as an excuse.

    Take your pick.

In my opinion, sooner he hangs his wig up the better.

Marko is correct about Fabricant’s interactions. Tweet him an “awkward” question and he just deletes it. The man’s arrogance knows no bounds.

Gillian, If he could he’d delete you in a public meeting when asked an awkward question as well, particularly when you question his response to what he’s been asked. How dare we question him? Who do we think we are in doing so? Unless you agree with him he doesn’t want to know.

Mr F. Are you having memory problems? Do you remember 2013?

He added light heartedly: “If you insult people, which he didn’t, when you insult people personally that’s very weak, and when you start using big words like ‘paradigm’ and things like that and still don’y actually say anything positive you think: ‘what a twat’.”

OMG! Just said “twat” live on air with @adriangoldberg on BBC WM referring to Russell Brand and his pompous remarks on @BBCNewsnight

OMG just said twat on Adrian Goldberg. So you are lying that you had never heard the word and did not know what it meant. It appears Mr Goldberg had also forgotten that you said it previously on his show also.
