Matilda the Musical

Matilda The Musical at the Birmingham Hippodrome is an absolute triumph.

Matilda the Musical
The Roald Dahl classic is spectacularly brought to life over the course of two hours and 40 minutes by a superb cast against the backdrop of an impressive and interchanging set.

My 10-year-old daughter and I were kept engaged, enthralled, and entertained throughout, as the text leapt out from page to stage.

While the entire cast deserves high praise, Poppy Jones had us gripped throughout as Matilda, and Craig Els was highly amusing in perfecting the role of the terrifying headmistress Miss Trunchbull.

And Matilda’s parents, Mr and Mrs Wormwood, were fabulously portrayed by Sebastien Torkia and Rebecca Thornhill.

From children sliding onto the set and swinging out towards the audience, a pupil swung around on stage by her pigtails, a disappearing chocolate cake, writing magically appearing upon a blackboard, falling tickertape, lighting effects, and fantastic music and vocals, I urge you not to miss this award-winning musical, which is simply superb.

When I asked my daughter how she’d rate it out of 5 stars she replied “10 stars!” – need I say more. Definitely one of the best musicals I’ve seen to date.

Matilda The Musical runs until September 8, with various matinee performances available as well as evening shows. To book click here.
