Chasetown FC still seeking first points after defeat at Runcorn Linnets

Chasetown FC are still looking for their first league points of the season after going down 2-1 at Runcorn Linnets.

The hosts made a positive start and rattled the crossbar early on, before taking the lead after 10 minutes when Kurt Sherlock fired home from close range after Chasetown failed to clear a free kick.

But the Scholars levelled in the 16th minute. Danny Cocks laid the ball back to Mike O’Reilly whose first time cross was headed home by Jack Langston.

Curtis Pond made a smart stop to deny Sherlock before Langston was next to rattle the crossbar with an effort from the edge of the box.

Chasetown made a positive start to the second half and had a header cleared off the line within the first five minutes.

But Runcorn took the lead against the run of play. A cross from the right was whipped across and Kris Holt steered the ball home.

George Cater had a strong appeal for a penalty turned down after he was tugged to the ground by Aaron Morris.

In the final minute, Joe Thomas’ corner kick was headed off the inside of the post by Jon Beaumont.
