The Scholars made a dream start with a goal inside two minutes. Danny Cocks outpaced the right back and his pass to the near post was chested home by George Cater.

Droylsden levelled in the 23rd minute with a quick counter attack and striker Sefton Gonzales turned sharply to fire low past Curtis Pond.

Chasetown regained control of the game and Jake Lovatt broke clear of the centre circle and squared the ball to Cater who struck the outside of the Droylsden post.

The visitors regained the lead in the 43rd minute. Jimmy O’Neill’s throw in found its way across to Lovatt who stooped in to head home from three yards.

Chasetown had the ball in the net through Levi Rowley at the start of the second half, but his effort
was flagged offside by the assistant. Then the hosts hit the crossbar through goalscorer Gonzalesas the game livened up.

Jack Langston forced a superb save from keeper Chris Thompson as Scott Dundas’ men went for the kill.

They deservedly made it 3-1 when Cocks was sent tumbling and Langston converted the spot kick.

Droylsden pulled one back with six minutes remaining. A cross was fired in by Luke Daly and substitute Brandon Ziibaka fired in off Pond’s left hand post.

But Chasetown put the game to bed in stoppage time. Will Whieldon broke clear and slid the ball home to wrap up the points.
