Chasetown FC secure spot in next round of league cup with penalty shootout win at Nantwich Town

Chasetown FC are through to the next round of the Integro League Cup after a spot-kick win at Nantwich Town.

A thoroughly entertaining game saw plenty of chances at either end. The visitors had, arguably, the better, fizzing plenty of them inches wide of the upright. On another night, if those had been on target, Chasetown could easily have been four or five goals to the good by the break.

But instead it was the hosts who led through a lovely finish from Steve Jones after he nipped in between the advancing Curtis Pond and a defender before chipping the ball beyond the keeper’s grasp to tap into an empty net.

Chasetown levelled before the break when Will Whieldon confidently converted a penalty in first half stoppage time.

Nantwich had their better chances after the break and Pond pulled off a top save to deny a first time effort from just outside the box.

Either side could have won and neither side really deserved to lose, so it was straight to penalty kicks at 90 minutes.

Jack Langston led the way for Chasetown, only for Nantwich to equalise. Will Whieldon made it 2-1 before Pond made a top save to his right to keep our advantage. When George Cater made it 3-1 and Pond saved again, Jake Lovatt fired home the winning spot kick.
