Early season struggles continue for Chasetown FC after defeat at Newcastle Town

Chasetown FC suffered midweek misery as they were beaten 3-1 at Newcastle Town.

Both sides were struggling near the basement of the early season table and the first 20 minutes lacked any real quality.

Newcastle had the better of the early half chances but it was Chasetown who took the lead in the 23rd minute. The ball broke to Muzzy Nduna and his cross-shot looped over Matt Johnson.

The hosts levelled when they were awarded a penalty and Rod Orlando-Young converted to Curtis Pond’s left.

Newcastle took the lead just after the hour when a lucky bounce from a defensive clearance fell to Jack van der Laan who slotted the ball to Orlando-Young who fired into an empty net.

The home side added a third with a shot from the edge of the box from Taylor Attrell which took a deflection and went through Pond’s legs.
