Lichfield City FC came from behind against Cadbury Athletic to keep themselves top of the table.

Jamie Hawkins’ Midland Football League Division One pacesetters went into the game knowing defeat would see their opponents leapfrog them at the summit.

Both sides had early chances in a lively opening but it was Cadbury who broke the deadlock when former City man Odane Barnes rounded Adam Jenkins to net after a long ball had unlocked the backline.

Two enforced first half changes due to injury hadn’t helped Lichfield’s cause, but they found themselves level after the interval when Max Black netted – and nearly scored again shortly afterwards.

The wind was in City’s sails after the equaliser but a number of chances came and went as the half wore on.

But the breakthrough eventually came when Adam Robinson fired past the keeper at the near post.

Cadbury were still a threat though, but a succession of saves from City stopper Jenkins ensured his side remained at the head of the table.
