Lichfield City FC stay top of the table with comfortable win over Heath Hayes

Lichfield City FC maintained their lead at the top of the table after a comfortable victory over Heath Hayes.

After a slow start, the deadlock was broken when Dan McLeod’s long ball forward was flicked on for James Taylor to slide the ball home.

But Heath Hayes showed they were still a threat with the linesman’s flag preventing them from taking advantage during a quick breakaway.

Taylor then saw an effort saved with Max Black’s follow-up kept out by a defender.

Jonathan Brown then had to be alert at the other end to keep Lichfield’s lead intact going into the half-time break.

The second half got off to the perfect start for City as Brad Lindsey netted a second goal shortly after the restart.

Lindsey could have had his second when he blazed over, but Heath Hayes’ reprieve was to be temporary as Dan Griffiths slotted under the keeper to make it 3-0.

A fourth goal soon followed when Black’s effort came back off the woodwork, but Lindsey was on hand to fire home the loose ball.

Alex Keating made it 5-0 to Lichfield after showing quick feet to create an opening.

Heath Hayes continued to plug away, with Brown making a good save before Sam Melia scored a consolation for them eight minutes from time.
