Chasetown FC out of the league cup after home defeat against Stafford Rangers

Chasetown FC suffered their third successive defeat as Stafford Rangers ended their hopes of progressing in the league cup.

Stafford secured the win with two first goals from Jake Charles and Tom Thorley, but the Scholars were never really out of the tie until the final whistle.

The visitors scored early but a Will Whieldon effort parried by Adam Whitehouse and an effort from Tom Hill over the bar saw Chasetown right back in the game.

Twenty minutes were on the clock when Rangers dented the Scholars’ hopes with their second goal, but again Whieldon forced a save from the visiting keeper.

Scott Dundas made all three allotted subs at half time and Chasetown were well into the ascendancy after the break.

Within eight minutes of the restart, Whieldon’s effort towards the near post was too strong for the keeper who could only palm into his net.

Jack Langston then forced another save with a long rang effort as Chasetown looked to try and take the tie to a penalty shoot out.

The hosts though they had that chance when Danny Cocks was sent tumbling inside the box with the home fans believing it was a penalty kick, but the referee deemed otherwise and produced a second yellow for Cocks instead.
