Lichfield City FC come from behind to beat Leicester Road

Lichfield City FC kept up the pressure on the league leaders with a 3-1 win over Leicester Road.

Jamie Hawkins’s men started brightly and carved out some early chances before falling behind to a headed goal.

But they were level when Joe Hartshorne rifled home a half-volley from the edge of the box.

Adam Jenkins produced a good save to ensure City didn’t fall again behind, while at the other end Max Black rattled the crossbar as both sides slugged it out before the break.

Lichfield got their noses in front in the second half as a through ball found James Taylor who chipped the keeper to net.

Black had a chance to extend his side’s lead, but could only fire at the keeper after breaking clear.

Taylor then hit the upright as City began to dominate.

Leicester Road’s hopes of getting back into the game were dented when a bad challenge on Taylor saw them reduced to ten men.

And their afternoon went from bad to worse as Hartshorne fired past the keeper to wrap up a 3-1 win that leaves Lichfield five points off league leaders Atherstone and two behind second placed Racing Club Warwick.
