Review: The Nutcracker at the Birmingham Hippodrome

Birmingham Royal Ballet’s production of the festive Nutcracker is magical, mesmerising and sensational.Performed by a professional talented cast, with a live orchestra, and an amazing set, it’s a fantastic way to kickstart the exciting countdown to Christmas – it kept my daughter and I engaged and enthralled throughout.

With pyrotechnics, flames, smoke, a lengthy and beautiful festive flurry of snow, and even a giant silver swan which flies Clara through the air over a bed of dry ice, this show is a crowd pleaser for all ages.

The magical transformation of the set at midnight on Christmas Eve from a normal world into a giant world is a wonderful sight to behold and one that draws gasps from little ones sitting in the audience.

As well as boasting a massive Christmas tree, complete with huge candles, even a box of toy soldiers transforms into real soldiers in the giant world.

While all dances performed during the ballet are beautiful, the most spectacular were those which were performed by both the Nutcracker Prince and the Sugar Plum Fairy.

I urge you not to miss this breathtaking, festive spectacle which runs until 13th December.
