Lichfield City FC stay within striking distance of league leaders after thumping Brocton

Lichfield City FC kept themselves within two points of the league leaders with a 6-1 win over Brocton.

A lively opening to the encounter saw both keepers tested, but it was Jamie Hawkins’ men who broke the deadlock when Joe Hartshorne fired home.

It was 2-0 to Lichfield with just over a quarter of an hour played as Drew Aiton netted.

Hartshorne turned provider as City netted a third with his delivery allowing Max Black a simple tap in.

The first half goalscoring wasn’t over yet as Aiton doubled his personal tally for the afternoon.

The second half saw plenty of rain but there was no sign of the downpour of goals halting as Aiton wrapped up his hat-tricks five minutes after the interval.

And on 53 minutes it was 6-0 to Lichfield as James Taylor tucked the ball home from close range.

It was to be the last of City’s goals as they took their foot off the pedal and Brocton bagged themselves a consolation through Jack Weldon.

Lichfield will be hoping for more of the same when they play the reverse fixture against Brocton next weekend.
