Lichfield City FC failed to bridge the gap on their higher league opponents as they went down 6-0 to Hednesford Town in the Staffordshire Senior Cup.

Jamie Hawkins’ men were always likely to face an uphill task, and so it proved as Dan Cockerline opened the scoring with a far post finish.

Romario Martin doubled the Pitmen’s advantage with a low finish before Jed Davies made it 3-0 from the penalty spot before the break.

City’s hopes of salvaging anything from the tie were dashed when sub Lewis Archer netted in the 65th minute.

The goalscoring was completed when Mikey Howard volleyed home and Martin’s effort took a deflection and found the net.
