Chasetown FC finish with eight players as they lose out to Runcorn Linnets

Chasetown FC fell to defeat against Runcorn Linnets after ending the game with just eight men.

The visitors had the better of the opening quarter of the game and Scholars Curtis Pond was the busier of the two keepers.

But Chasetown were a whisker away from an opening goal with a Will Whieldon free kick curling past the upright.

And it was the hosts took the lead against the run of play in the 35th minute. A swift counter attack saw Tom Hill advance into the box and drill a low shot beyond Dylan Forth.

The league leaders levelled almost immediately with a goal from Kurt Sherlock low beyond Pond.

Chasetown’s task was made tougher when they were reduced to ten men after Jazz Luckie was sent off for a challenge.

Runcorn then took the lead when Pond conceded a spot kick, despite the Scholars appealing for offside, and Sherlock sent the keeper the wrong way for his second goal.

Chasetown saw red for the second time with Will Whieldon receiving his marching orders.

And the Scholars ended with 8 men with Matty Hardiman also seeing a straight red card.
