Lichfield City FC lose out in nine goal thriller at Brocton

Lichfield City FC came out on the wrong end of a nine goal thriller at Brocton.

Jamie Hawkins’ men had delivered a 6-1 drubbing the week before, but were not to have it their own way seven days later.

Brocton took the lead after 20 minutes through James McGrady and could have doubled their advantage when a free-kick found the net only for the referee to spot an infringement and deny the goal.

The let-off seemed to spark Lichfield into life as Drew Aiton sent a free-kick crashing against the home side’s bar.

City didn’t have to wait too long to find the leveller though as Dan Griffiths finished from close range before the break.

The second half saw Lichfield get their noses in front as Max Black fired home, only for Lee Osborne to level it up on 65 minutes.

With the game evenly balanced, the goals – and the rain – kept on coming.

Griffiths bagged his second of the game to put Lichfield in front again, only for Daniel Lomas to make it 3-3 on 77 minutes.

Joe Hartshorne netted to make it 4-3, but Kieren Nelson got Brocton back on terms straight away with ten minutes left on the clock.

The drama wasn’t over though as McGrady scored the decisive goal for the home side on 85 minutes.
