Lichfield City FC’s rich vein of goalscoring form continued as they thrashed Stapenhill 9-2 on Boxing Day.
The signs were there early on as James Taylor saw an early effort cleared off the line.
But he wouldn’t have to wait long to open the scoring as he fired home from a flick-on to put City in front.
Stapenhill cleared another one of the line before they conceded a penalty which Taylor converted.
City’s copybook was blotted a little when the home side pulled one back with their first attack of the game, but Taylor’s hat-trick was soon completed as he managed to get up and head home from a corner.
The first half goals kept flowing as Brad Lindsey joined Taylor on the scoresheet as Lichfield made it 4-1 before the break.
The second period saw no respite for the hosts as City netted straight from the kick-off when Lindsey’s cross allowed Joe Hartshorne to rifle home.
Hartshorne almost added a second only to see a goal line clearance deny him.
A free-kick saw Stapenhill reduce the areas, but it was 6-2 when Hartshorne lifted the ball over the keeper.
The seventh goal came courtesy of Josh Mansell, before Dan Griffiths tapped in Lichfield’s eighth of the afternoon.
There was still time for Lichfield to add number nine when Alex Keating wrapped up the scoring.
