A project run by a Lichfield school has been shortlisted for a national award.

The Music Share programme organised by Lichfield Cathedral School is in the running for a Times Educational Supplement Independent Schools Award.

The singing outreach programme is led by Cathy Lamb and works with primary, secondary and special schools to encourage children to use their voices.

Run in partnership with Lichfield Cathedral, the scheme began in 2003 and has since seen more than 10,000 state school children take part in workshops, projects and concerts.

The Times Educational Supplement editor Ann Mroz said: “Independent education in this country is truly world class – it’s one of our great success stories.

“We received a record number of entries this year and the standard is the highest yet, so to be shortlisted is an extraordinary achievement for any school.”

The winners will be revealed at a gala awards evening at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London this evening (1st February).
