The library moved to a new site following a controversial decision to switch from its previous home at The Friary.

The new facility also features a performing arts space.

The Liverpool-born author behind books such as The Other Side of You, Miss Garnet’s Angel and The Librarian will cut the ribbon before hosting an ‘audience with’ event at 7.30pm.

Cllr Gill Heath, Cabinet member for communities at Staffordshire County Council said: “We’re all thrilled with our new library and getting Salley along to officially open it is a real coup for us.

“Salley is an amazing novelist and guarantees magic and mystery and her own sense of humour whenever she puts pen to paper.

“We’re all very excited about her visit and I’m sure, like the people of Lichfield she’ll be very impressed with our new library.”

Nick Sedgwick, chairman of St Mary’s said they were delighted with the response to the new library facility.

“The Guild of St Mary’s have transformed the building since closing in 2017 with financial assistance from Staffordshire County Council and many other generous organisations, trusts, charities and individuals.

“We now have a modern building fit for purpose and ready for the next generation”

Tickets to the evening event are £10 and can be booked by calling 0300 111 8000 or by emailing [email protected].
