The bells of the Friary clock tower in Lichfield are set to fall silent during the coming weeks.

Refurbishment work will be carried out with the chimes due to begin again by the end of March.

A spokesperson for Lichfield City Council said: “Clock experts Smiths of Derby will be removing the hammers which strike the bells for refurbishment.

“It is hoped they will be reinstated by the end of March.”
