Lichfield City FC fall behind leading pack after shock home defeat against Coventry Copsewood

Lichfield City FC lost ground on the leading pack after a surprise 2-0 home defeat against struggling Coventry Copsewood.

Jamie Hawkins’ men now find themselves eight points adrift of second and third placed Racing Club Warwick and Atherstone Town, while leaders Heather St Johns sit 18 points ahead of City having played a game more.

Lichfield started the encounter brightly following a midweek friendly win over Bolehall Swifts, with Matthew O’Doherty’s header testing the Coventry keeper early on.

It was to prove a busy first half for visiting stopper Dale O’Donnell as he repelled a number of home attacks.

Dan Griffiths was twice denied before a top drawer save also kept out Tom Massey as City pressed for an opener.

O’Donnell’s heroics continued as he tipped Brad Rolston’s header onto the bar to ensure both sides went into the break level.

Any thoughts of Lichfield making their chances count were soon extinguished in the second half though as goals from Danny Fraser and Sean Kavanagh saw Copsewood secure an unlikely three points.
