Independent candidate says he will give voters in Lichfield a real voice in the council chamber

An independent candidate says he is standing in a bid to give voters a real voice on key matters impacting Lichfield.

Chris Wilkinson will stand in the Stowe ward on 2nd May.

Chris Wilkinson

He believes the chance to vote for a candidate without party allegiances will give residents a genuine voice in the council chamber.

“There is no national agenda nor party machine behind my back,” he explained.

“I am running a one-man band, openly and honestly, in the best spirit of democracy.

“Standing as councillor, I aim to be a representative for the voices of Lichfield.

“If your voice has been lost due to the Tories’ failed Friarsgate project, the flagship economic policy of the city, I shall speak for you.

“If your voice has been ignored by closed council meetings and a lack of proper accountability, I shall speak for you.

“If your voice is not heard loudly enough in your local community, whether you’re disabled or elderly struggling to access public transport or if you’re young without a constructive outlet to express your character, I shall speak for you.

“Put simply, a vote for me will be a voice for you.”

Ten candidates

The Stowe ward is likely to be a competitive battleground, with ten candidates standing.

The group are made up of two independents, three Conservatives, three Lib Dems, one Labour and one UKIP candidate.

Mr Wilkinson believes his independent status will give residents a real alternative.

“Eclipsed by the spectre of Brexit, the attitudes of many towards the mainstream is now one of extreme dissatisfaction and resentment,” he said.

“The political process has failed to deliver. Issues that affect our daily lives are being sidelined.

“A recent by-election showed support for the Conservative and Labour parties collapse – an effect of political parties’ enduring incompetence and increasing irrelevance.

“Only an independent candidate can put this right.”

Good Luck Chris, its about time we had a Councillor that wasn’t in it for the prestige, lining his / her pockets or toeing the party line where local issues are at stake rather than national ones.

I’m assuming English Literature wasn’t your forte in school, Chris?

What a condescending and snide ad hominem attack, Plath. And why English ‘Literature’? I’m guessing that neither English Literature nor Language was your forte in school, either.

Good luck Chris, and kudos to you for having the courage to try and make a difference.

Only trouble is, not all Independents are Independent, just changing shirts for a better chance to win as the Tory brand spoils. The lad here appears to be honest, so good on him.
