Burntwood charity boosted by donation from local business

A Burntwood charity has been boosted by a donation from a local company.

Chasetown-based Cameron Homes gave £500 to the Burntwood Community First Responders.

The organisation is aiming to raise £40,000 to replace one of its two cars which are used to help people in need of emergency medical help.

The volunteer responders are trained by West Midlands Ambulance Service to respond to 999 calls in the Burntwood area.

“We are totally reliant on donations and grants, together with our own fundraising, to keep us on the road,” said Linda King from the charity. “This includes purchasing and maintaining both of our response vehicles, buying uniforms and other equipment.

“Our older car has clocked up over 134,000 miles and is becoming a financial drain on our very limited resources so we launched an appeal to buy and convert a new vehicle.

“We do not receive any funding from West Midlands Ambulance Service so we were delighted to receive this kind donation from Cameron Homes.

“We regularly organise and support fundraising activities and provide free CPR and defibrillator awareness sessions in local communities, including schools.

“Our total raised to date is £32,871 and we are overwhelmed with the support from local people and businesses.

“We are still in the process of applying for grants and continue to contact companies and organisations for assistance and have various fundraising events planned.”

Sonya Bagley, marketing executive of Cameron Homes, said that the business was pleased to be able to help the charity.

“The Burntwood Community First Responders charity is a very worthwhile organisation and we wish it well in its campaign to buy a new vehicle,” she said.
