Chasetown FC fail to make extra man count in defeat against Prescot Cables

Chasetown FC let a lead slip as they suffered a 4-1 defeat against Prescot Cables.

The Scholars were on the front foot early on with some searching corners into the Cables penalty area.

But it was the visitors who almost broke the deadlock in the 7th minute when Ryan Wynter cleared a James Edgar shot off the line.

Goalkeeper Curtis Pond then denied Edgar with a low save with his legs.

But the Scholars took the lead in the 27th minute. Good advantage play saw Danny Cocks advance with the ball before laying it to Liam Kirton. He helped the ball onto leading goalscorer Tom Hill who lobbed keeper Ollie Taylor with a superb strike.

Cables levelled three minutes into the second half though when Edgar drove into the box and Baba Conte slid the ball past the defender on the line.

The visitors were reduced to ten men when Aaron Turner saw a second yellow for a lunge on Cocks right under the assistant’s nose.

Prescot took the lead in the 69th minute when a cross to the far post was headed home by Matthew Hamilton.

The ten men turned the game on its head and substitute Lloyd Dean increased the lead in the 72nd minute.

Chasetown were unable to make their advantage count and in fact it took a Pond save in stoppage time to keep the score lower.

Cables added a fourth as Luke Griffiths converted a late penalty following a handball.
