Supporters calling for a new vote on Brexit will take to the streets of Lichfield today (18th May) as part of a national campaign.

Members of the People’s Vote movement will be speaking to voters ahead of the European Parliamentary elections on 23rd May.

A spokesperson for the People’s Vote Campaign in Lichfield said a new ballot was the only way to settle the Brexit debate.

“The People’s Vote Campaign is not a political party and it would be wrong for us to tell people which specific party to vote for,” they said. “But we are supportive of those parties which have a manifesto commitment in these elections to the public having a final say on Brexit.

“Nigel Farage wants you to stay at home and not vote so he can win.

“There is a clear choice. If you believe in a modern, outward looking and inclusive country then get out and vote for a pro-People’s Vote party. Or don’t vote and let Farage and his isolationist, backwards vision for Britain win.

“A People’s Vote is not an option in this Brexit crisis, it is the solution to the crisis.

“Giving the public the final say is ultimately the only way to deliver a stable settlement that can command the confidence of both Parliament and the country.”

I would suggest that it would do exactly the opposite. Many, both in and out of Parliament, would see it as anti democratic. Neither opinion would be satisfied whatever the outcome. The inability of the Prime Minister to negotiate an acceptable agreement and her intransigence to alter her stance, together with the leader of the opposition pretending to be open while being totally opaque has left both sides bemused and confused. Politics in this country were under strain before the referendum. To some extent the outcome reflected this. It’s consequences has seriously undermined our whole political process and leaves us vulnerable to something far worse. We should accept the referendum regardless of any other consideration. This does not mean that Peoples Vote supporters cannot canvas for re-entry at a later date. This would satisfy our democratic process and only then “command the confidence of both Parliament and country”.

If there is to be a second referendum then there should also be a third. Best of three.

@Adam how about we have one referendum that isn’t corrupt?
