Lichfield City FC treated supporters to a pre-season treat in a rollercoaster account with a Walsall FC academy side.
Jay Hawkins’ men had failed to find the net in their first two friendlies, but there was no signs of them being shot-shy as they raced into the lead with a smart finish from the edge of the box – and then went two in front shortly afterwards.
Adam Jenkins had to make two smart saves to deny Walsall a chance to half the deficit but his resistance was eventually broken before the half-time whistle.
But a direct piece of play early in the second half again saw Lichfield find the target to go 3-1 in front.
The young Saddlers were not down and out though and a penalty saw them get back into the game before a goalmouth scramble led to the equaliser.
A late goal was enough to earn Walsall the victory as Lichfield look ahead to their next pre-season encounter against Romulus at home tomorrow (20th July), kick-off 3pm.
